Iran forbids the annual conference of Sunni students

ZAHEDAN- The provincial authorities of Sistan-Balochistan, Iran have forbidden by force and menace the annual Sunni students conference, which is conducted with Ulema and academic personalities in Zahedan. The conference time was tabled 2nd March 2011.

According to a correspondent of “Sunnionline”, it was decided that the annual Sunni students conference would be held on 2nd March 2011 this year, but due to discriminatory pressure and threatening behavior of the provincial authorities the conference has been cancelled.

The organizers of the conference have announced the cancellation of the scheduled gathering and failure of negotiation with the concerned authorities. It may be held in upcoming weeks.

Sunnionline” quoted the organizers of the annual conference that tens of thousands Sunni students of various universities belonging to different parts of Iran have been gathering each year in Marches in Darululoom Zahedan, the largest Sunni seminary and grand Makki mosque, the only target is to meet eminent scholars especially Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdul Hameed, the rector of Darululoom Zahedan and the Union of Sunni seminaries.

It is worthy to mention that such conferences and meetings are the basic constitutional right of the Sunni community in Iran but some known authorized elements have been trying to prevent all the limited liberties of Sunnis. As recently they sealed a house of Sunnis in Tehran where they were offering five-time prayers in congregation and imam of Sunnis was detained too.

Before this the Iranian officials forbade Sunni Muslims of the big cities to offer five-time prayers including Jum’ah and Eidain prayers in congregation, which over shows the slogans of the Iranian rulers for unification. These discriminative and humiliating acts took place before and after the “Week of Unity” which was celebrated from 12 to 18 Rabee-ul-Awal in Iran officially.
